Jacolien Britz
Practice Owner

The practice is owned and managed by myself Jacolien Britz. My carreer as a speech therapist started in 2003 when I enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch and qualified in 2007. I can proudly say that I now have 10 years experience of this wonderful occupation to back me up in my evaluation and treatment of clients.

I’ve found a special love for and connection in helping little ones who are not developing as we would expect them to and my greatest reward is to see them reach their God given potential.

I’ve since developed auditory perceptual programs to help with much needed and neglected listening skills in our school aged children.

I also love working with my adult population and enjoy seeing the benefits we reap from stroke and brain injury rehabilitation.

I’ve now recently ventured into creating a greater awareness into helping little babies feed and ease the stress off of mommies in hospital settings.

Courses recently attended that has been of great benefit is the Caroline Bowen Childhood Developmental Apraxia course, Floortime 101 and the two week intensive Autism Training course presented by Vera School for Autistic Learners.

My dreams and hopes for the practice is to never have to make a client feel that their situation is hopeless. I will always aspire to learn more to help but will never be afraid to refer to someone else if need be. I firmly believe in working with a multidisciplinary team and treating a client holistically.

Jamie-Lee du Preez

As a qualified Speech-Language Therapist (University of Cape Town, 2014), I have had to learn to become adaptable and flexible in all realms of life. I completed my Community Service in Eastern Cape, Port Elizabeth, at Dora Nginza Hospital and Livingstone Hospital. My ultimate passion is pediatric dysphagia (feeding and swallowing difficulties in the pediatric population). I have done an intensive breastfeeding course offered by the Eastern Cape Department of Health (2015- Mother-Baby Friendly Breastfeeding Initiative). Thereafter I was able to expand and practice dysphagia and breastfeeding management more confidently with my clients. I strive to be a whistle-blower for unethical practice and it is my utmost priority to provide a quality service for yourself and/or your child. I thrive on creativity and new ideas. Should you or your child go home with something fun to do- be prepared!

Lica King

After graduating from the University of Cape Town in 2013, I completed my community service in the Northern Cape at Kakamas Hospital. I faced many challenges during this year and it became my passion to assist in the rural community where services were limited and the role of a Speech-Language Therapist was unknown. I enjoyed working closely with the paediatric population in rural crèches and schools. It was rewarding to work closely with teachers and giving prevention and promotion talks on early childhood intervention. I returned to Cape Town in 2014 and in June of 2014 I joined Jacolien Britz Speech Therapy. During my time at the practice I have grown in my skills and I have come to appreciate working in such a dynamic Speech Therapy team. My interests are early childhood intervention, school-based therapy, home visits and voice therapy. I am eager to develop my skills in the adult population, working with patients who have experienced traumatic brain injury or stokes.

I have attended several courses to develop my abilities within the paediatric population, these include: Childhood Apraxia of Speech (presented by Caroline Bowen), Autism Spectrum Disorders (presented by Dr. D. Griesel and Claire Allen) and Eye-Gaze Assistive Technology for special needs.
